Personal Care for your Dog or Cat

Orthopaedic

We know taking your pet to a Perth vet hospital for surgery can be daunting. Here at Epsom Avenue Veterinary Clinic our staff of highly experienced vets and vet nurses treat orthopaedic cases with the utmost care and attention. Our focus is on getting your pet healthy and ensuring a swift recovery after surgery.

What is orthopaedic surgery?

Orthopaedic surgery involves any treatment related to bones and joints. It is a specialised area of vet care administered by qualified veterinary clinics or in Perth vet hospitals, to treat problems such as fractures, damaged ligaments, or joint problems.

Epsom Avenue Veterinary Clinic have fully equipped surgical facilities to treat a range of common orthopaedic health problems, from dog arthritis treatment to trauma and accident therapy and more.

Why would my pet need orthopaedic surgery?

Most orthopaedic treatments address bone and joint problems in the hips and knees caused by trauma, arthritis, age or degenerative conditions. Occasionally more complicated cases such as spinal surgery will be referred to a specialist vet surgeon.

Orthopaedic surgery services we offer

Epsom Avenue Veterinary Clinic has vet hospital facilities to diagnose and treat orthopaedic cases, and facilitate a full recovery. Our orthopaedic expertise, developed over a combined 60 years in pet healthcare, includes:

Cranial cruciate ligament repair

Surgery to repair and stabilise damaged knee ligaments, usually in small-to-medium dogs and some larger breeds. Cruciate ligament damage can trigger arthritis in dogs, so healthy joint function is important.

Luxating Patella Repair

The patella (kneecap) can rotate or move out of position (luxate), causing pain and arthritis in small animals. Our experienced surgical specialists can correct patella luxation and restore healthy joint mobility to avoid dog arthritis treatment later on.

Amputations for severe injuries or bone cancer cases

Occasionally trauma or advanced cancer requires limb amputation, either because the limb will not recover or stop the disease spreading. Our vets will provide tailored advice on the surgery and recovery process for your peace of mind.

Fracture repair by pinning and/or plating

Just like humans, some pets can have metal pins or plates inserted to correct a bone fracture or congenital defect. Pinning or plating restores joint stability and allows your pet to live pain-free. Most fracture repairs are followed by physical therapy under advice from our vets.

Why Epsom Avenue Veterinary Clinic?

Epsom Avenue Veterinary Clinic is the WA vet trusted to cater for all kinds of orthopaedic health complaints, from dog arthritis treatments to limb amputations, knee surgery, patella luxation and tailored recovery programs.

Our experienced vets have a combined 60 years of expertise in assessing, treating, and managing injury and illness in small animals. Here in our fully equipped Perth vet hospital rooms we provide compassionate and comprehensive treatment for your fuzzy family member and explain everything to you clearly so you know what to expect from surgery.
